China Datang Co-Organizes Side Event at China Pavilion of COP 29
China Datang and China Electricity Council (CEC) jointly organized a side event titled "Green and Low-Carbon Development in China's Electric Power Industry" at the China Pavilion of the ongoing 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), or COP29, in Azerbaijan's capital city of Baku on Nov. 14.
Government officials and representatives of enterprises attended and delivered speeches at the event, including Li Jianwei, Vice President of China Datang; Yang Kun, Executive Vice Chairman of the CEC; Lu Shize, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Climate Change of China's Ministry of Ecology and Environment; Xiong Minfeng, Deputy Director-General of the International Cooperation Department of China's National Energy Administration; and Yu Hongchi, Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Azerbaijan.
Li noted at the event that achieving China's dual carbon goals, building a new type of power system, and developing new quality productive forces hold the key to the green and low-carbon development of the country's electric power industry.
China Datang is committed to building a diversified green power supply structure and promoting the integrated development of digital technologies and power technologies, Li said. China Datang stands ready to work with cooperative partners from various countries to contribute to the building of a clean and beautiful world and share the opportunities for green development, he stressed.
During the event, representatives from the International Energy Agency, the Environmental Defense Fund, the Eurelectric, Ernst & Young Global Limited, and ACT Commodities, among other organizations and companies, shared their achievements in the fields of green and low-carbon development and energy transition, providing participants with a global perspective and profound insights.
On the afternoon of Nov. 14, the China Datang delegation to COP29, led by Li, paid a visit to the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan.
During the visit, China Datang executives had an in-depth exchange of views with Parviz Shahbazov, the Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan, on cooperation in renewable energy projects such as offshore wind, onshore wind, and photovoltaic power projects.
They also signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between China Datang and the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan with Azerbaijan's Deputy Minister of Energy Orkhan Zeynalov.
In addition, China Datang Overseas Investment Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Datang, signed a memorandum of understanding on project cooperation with SOCAR Green LLC, a subsidiary of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR).
The China Datang delegation visited the sites of relevant projects in the company of officials from the Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency under the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan on Nov. 15.
Members of the delegation conducted preliminary research on site and gained a comprehensive understanding of the development conditions and overall plans for the projects. They also formulated plans for the next steps of the projects.
Relevant personnel from the international business department of China Datang, China Datang Low-Carbon & Green Development Co., Ltd., and the Central Asia Representative Office of China Datang Overseas Investment Co., Ltd. participated in the above activities.
