The 24th Conference on the Electric Power Supply Industry (CEPSI) is held in Xiamen, southeast China's Fujian Province.

Zou Lei, Chairman of China Datang, attended the 24th Conference on the Electric Power Supply Industry (CEPSI) upon invitation and delivered a keynote speech titled "Working Together to Promote Green and Low-Carbon Development and Build a Clean and Beautiful World" on Oct. 20.

Themed "Low Carbon Energy, Powering a Green Future," CEPSI 2023 opened in Xiamen, southeast China's Fujian Province, on Oct. 20. Chinese Vice President Han Zheng attended the opening ceremony of the conference and delivered a speech.

The conference was jointly hosted by the Association of the Electricity Supply Industry of East Asia and the Western Pacific (AESIEAP) and the China Electricity Council, and co-hosted by 18 major power companies and institutions in China, including China Datang. Zou Lei, Chairman of China Datang, delivers a keynote speech at the 24th Conference on the Electric Power Supply Industry (CEPSI), Oct. 20, 2023.

In his speech, Zou first expressed his sincere congratulations on the successful convening of the CEPSI 2023 and his deep gratitude to friends from all walks of life who have long cared about and supported China Datang.

He then pointed out that energy security and climate change are among the most urgent challenges for global sustainable development. He said that Chinese President Xi Jinping, with profound insights into domestic and international situations and a profound understanding of the importance of good coordination between development and security, has creatively proposed a new strategy for energy security, personally planned for and promoted the building of a new energy system and a new power system, contributing Chinese wisdom to efforts to propel global energy transition, safeguard global energy security, and tackle climate change, and providing Chinese solution for the efforts of AESIEAP's 18 member countries and regions to upgrade their energy sector.

East Asia and the Western Pacific are key regions for global efforts to tackle climate change and achieve carbon neutrality, said Zou. He put forward a four-point proposal regarding safeguarding energy security and addressing climate change, namely speeding up large-scale development of new energy and the transformation of new energy sources from emerging energy sources into the main sources of energy; accelerating the transformation and upgrading of traditional energy sources so as to ensure energy security and economic security during the transitional period as the new power system is being built; ramping up efforts to advance scientific and technological innovations in the energy sector to lead green transformation and upgrading of the sector with new technologies as well as new business forms and new models; and facilitating the electrification of end-use energy consumption and promoting comprehensive green transformation of the mode of production.

As an important energy enterprise in the Asia-Pacific region, China Datang is committed to maintaining energy security, contributing to the building of a clean and beautiful world, and sharing the fruits of the development of the modern power industry with various parties, Zou said.

He explained that China Datang has adhered to the principle of building the new before discarding the old in promoting the transformation and upgrading of coal power, hydropower and other traditional electricity industries, accelerated green transformation and vigorously developed clean energy like wind and solar power, and deepened international cooperation and actively participated in power infrastructure construction in many countries.

Going forward, China Datang is willing to join hands with other members of the AESIEAP to comprehensively deepen strategic cooperation in infrastructure construction, technological innovations, as well as the building of standards systems, share opportunities presented by the tide of low-carbon and green energy transition, shape a bright future of green electricity, and contribute to maintaining regional energy security and building a clean and beautiful world, Zou said.

After taking part in the opening ceremony of the CEPSI 2023, a group of participants led by Zou and Peng went to an exhibition of the conference, where they visited the exhibition booths of China Datang and its close partners, including the TBEA Group and LONGi Green Energy Technology Co., Ltd.

The CEPSI is a major event for members of the AESIEAP to discuss the latest developments in the energy sector in the Asia-Pacific region. The CEPSI 2023 marked the first time the conference has been held in the Chinese mainland since the CEPSI 2004 held in Shanghai.

The CEPSI 2023 featured diverse activities, including a plenary session, side events, paper presentations, technical visits, an exhibition, and a cultural night activity. By providing a platform for multi-dimensional and cross-field exchanges and cooperation, it contributed to the efforts of participants to reach consensus, enhance cohesion, and jointly build a community of electricity with a shared future for East Asia and Western Pacific, so as to address challenges confronting such fields as energy security, green transition, and sustainable development.
