Deepen Energy Cooperation under China-Cambodia 'Diamond Hexagon' cooperation framework

Zou Lei, Chairman of China Datang, met with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet in Beijing on Monday, during which the two sides had a friendly exchange of views on strengthening energy cooperation in Cambodia. 

Peng Yong, Vice President of China Datang, was also present at the meeting.

During the meeting, Hun Manet expressed gratitude to China Datang for its support for the development of Cambodia's power sector. He noted that Cambodia and China are ironclad friends, and that Cambodia was one of the first countries to respond to and participate in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) proposed by China. 

Thanks to the BRI, Cambodia-China cooperation in such areas as production capacity, trade, investment, agriculture, and infrastructure, has been continuously deepened and yielded tangible fruits, which have benefited both the Chinese and Cambodian people, Hun Manet said.

Cambodia hopes that China Datang will continue to leverage its advantages regarding investment in the energy sector and further enhance communication and exchanges and expand cooperation with Cambodia in the field of renewable energy sources, so as to consolidate and deepen energy cooperation with Cambodia under the Cambodia-China "Diamond Hexagon" cooperation framework and support Cambodia's efforts to safeguard power security and pursue green and low-carbon energy transition, according to the prime minister.

Zou thanked the Cambodian government for its support for China Datang's subsidiaries operating in Cambodia, and shared information about China Datang's operations, international business, projects as well as endeavors to fulfill its social responsibilities in Cambodia.

Over the past decades, generations of leaders of China and Cambodia have carried out close and friendly exchanges and jointly cultivated a special friendship that will continue to benefit generations to come, Zou said.

Noting that this year marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic ties between China and Cambodia, the China-Cambodia Friendship Year, and the 10th anniversary of the BRI, Zou stressed that China Datang will actively align its operations with Cambodia's Pentagonal Strategy and deepen clean energy cooperation in Cambodia on the premise of safe and stable operations of existing projects in the country, in a bid to make new contributions to guaranteeing safe and stable power supply in Cambodia, building a new type of power system for the country, as well as the country's social and economic development.
