China's Largest Single-Capacity Plateau Mountain Wind Power Project Connected to Grid

2026-07-22

The Julongliang Wind Farm Expansion Project of China Datang, China’s plateau mountain wind power project featuring the largest single-unit turbine capacity, was fully connected to the grid on July 19, injecting strong momentum into the expansion of the regional new energy industry and the transition toward green, low-carbon development.

Once in operation, the project is expected to generate 462 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually, saving approximately 140,000 tonnes of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 380,000 tonnes each year.

Located in Jinyuan Township, Xundian County of Kunming, Yunnan Province, the project has a total installed capacity of 158.22 MW. It is equipped with three 8.34 MW wind turbines and twelve 11.1 MW wind turbines, making it China's largest plateau mountain wind power project in terms of single-unit turbine capacity.

Leveraging the region's abundant wind resources, the project adopts customized large-capacity wind turbines that overcome the limitations of conventional mountain wind power equipment. Designed to operate under the complex conditions of high-altitude terrain, low temperatures and strong winds, the turbines significantly improve both wind energy utilization and power generation stability.

The project sets a new benchmark for improving the quality and efficiency of high-altitude wind power development in China, showcasing the country's advanced technologies and engineering capabilities in plateau mountain wind power construction.
