BRICS Industrial Innovation Contest Kicks off Overseas Round in Indonesia

The 2026 BRICS Industrial Innovation Contest Indonesia Overseas Qualification, hosted by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and organized by China Datang, officially opened in Jakarta, Indonesia, on the morning of May 7 local time.

Launched as an important signature activity serving the implementation of the BRICS Partnership on New Industrial Revolution (PartNIR), the BRICS Industrial Innovation Contest has been held annually since 2020.

Over six editions, it has attracted more than 6,000 teams from over 10 countries, with its outcomes frequently incorporated in BRICS leaders' summit declarations.

The Indonesian overseas round represented a key step in the contest's international expansion. It also vividly illustrated China Datang's strategy of leveraging Indonesia as a regional hub to promote energy cooperation, industrial innovation, and connectivity across BRICS countries and neighboring countries.

The 2026 BRICS Industrial Innovation Contest Indonesia Overseas Qualification, themed "Gather Intelligence in Innovative BRICS Development to Accelerate the New Industrial Revolution Progress," featured four tracks, namely artificial intelligence, green industries, low-altitude equipment, and energy electronics.

Nearly 100 innovators from China and Indonesia took part in the event, setting a new record for participation.

As a Chinese member of the BRICS Business Council, China Datang actively carries out energy cooperation with Indonesian partners and is committed to promoting mutual benefit and win-win results for both sides.

The company's total assets exceed $140 billion. Its installed capacity is over 200 gigawatts, of which 51.45 percent comes from clean energy.

In Indonesia, China Datang has developed and put into operation high-quality power projects totaling more than 1,140 megawatts, providing reliable electricity to support local economic and social development. 

Alongside its operational achievements, China Datang has launched extensive environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives, including public-benefit projects covering coral reef restoration, mangrove planting, and community support.

In 2024 and 2025, the company received multiple awards for its corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts in Indonesia, including the Five-Star CSR Award, underscoring its commitment to sustainable development and shared prosperity with local communities.
