A rare and endemic fish breeding and releasing center station on Hongshui River put into operation
On the morning of June 29, the acceptance meeting for the commissioning of the Rare and Endemic Fish Breeding and Releasing Center Station in the middle reaches cascade (Yantan-Letan) of the Hongshui River in Guangxi was held at Datang Guangxi Dahua Hydropower Plant. At the meeting, the center station was officially put into operation.
Hongshui River is the main stream of the Xijiang River system in the Pearl River Basin. The middle reaches of the river have seen the earliest hydropower development. Since the 1970s, four cascade hydropower stations, namely Dahua, Yantan, Bailongtan, and Letan, have been built. In view of the different environmental protection requirementsfor the development and construction of different power stations, artificial proliferation measures were mainly adopted to protect fish resources before. The released fish species were mainly domestic commercial fish, which had a positive effect on the maintenance of fishery resources, but they still could not fully satisfy the requirements for the protection of fish resources in the watershed. After a thorough investigation, China Datang Corporation Ltd. decided to build a breeding and releasing center station on the bank of Hongshui River in the urban area of Dahua Yao Autonomous County. The total static investment of the project was 67.531 million yuan for the establishment of spawning incubation and opening fry cultivation workshops and fry cultivation workshops, broodstock breeding workshops, outdoor breeding ponds, ecological ponds, comprehensive buildings, power distribution rooms and supporting facilities, etc.. It can play a role in collecting scientific research on artificial reproduction of rare fishes, artificial fish reproduction and release, and popular science education on rare aquatic wild animals.
The middle reaches of the Hongshui River (Yantan-Letan) Rare and Endemic Fish Breeding and Releasing Center Station is responsible for the fish breeding and releasing of Yantan, Dahua, Bailongtan and Letan Hydropower Stations, with a scale of 1.32 million fish released each year. In addition, taking use of the breeding and releasin center station, China Datang will establish a popular science education and publicity base for the protection of rare fish in Hongshui River Basin, carry out popular science education and publicity activities, display the ecological environmental protection achievements of the hydropower projects in the middle reaches of the Hongshui River, and enhance the protection awareness of rare aquatic wildlife from all walks of life. Efforts will be made to build the station into an influential demonstrative base for fish protection, breeding, releasing and popular science in the Hongshui River Basin and Guangxi.
